Police serve warrant at home and headquarters of police officer who killed investigator during operation

On Saturday morning, the 26th, the Civil Police executed search and seizure warrants against military police officers from the Rota (Rota) involved in the case that resulted in the death of investigator Rafael Moura da Silva, which occurred on July 11th in the Fogaréu favela, in the south of São Paulo. This information is from G1. Estadão contacted the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat but did not receive a response by the time this article was published.
The warrants targeted Sergeant Marcus Augusto Costa Mendes, who fired the fatal shots, and Robson Santos Barreto, also a member of the Tobias de Aguiar Patrol (ROTA). The searches took place both at the officers' residences and in their lockers at the police headquarters.
During the seizures, electronic equipment and Marcus Augusto's service weapon were seized—specifically, a cell phone, a laptop, and the company's pistol. Investigators seized a cell phone and a laptop from Robson.
Although the Civil Police requested the arrest of those involved, the court denied the request. However, the precautionary suspension of both officers for a period of 90 days was maintained. Meanwhile, the Military Police Internal Affairs Department is also conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
Details
Investigator Rafael Moura, 38, lost his life during a joint police operation in the Fogaréu community, in the Campo Limpo region. The incident occurred when teams from the Rota and Civil Police were operating in the same location without mutual knowledge of each other's presence.
Body camera footage captured the sequence of events around 5:42 p.m. The footage shows Sergeant Marcus Augusto running toward a metal gate, which he opens using a key found at the scene, before continuing into the favela.
Moments later, the shots rang out that killed the investigator. Even after Rafael identified himself as a police officer, the shooting continued. The audio in the footage records the desperate screams of the victim's colleagues warning him that it was a police officer.
The investigator was shot three times, two in the chest. Taken to Hospital das Clínicas, Rafael survived for five days before dying. Another civil police officer, Marcos Santos de Sousa, suffered superficial injuries in the same incident.
