Portuguese spend more on travel this summer

The Portuguese are spending more on their summer vacations this year compared to 2024. Even so, the biggest increase in demand was seen in packages costing between 600 and 1,200 euros.
The conclusions are from the latest Travel Barometer from ANAV — National Association of Travel Agencies, released this Tuesday.
Among the most popular destinations for summer 2025, Cape Verde leads the Portuguese travel preferences, followed by the Dominican Republic and the Spanish islands. Compared to last summer, the main change was the reversal between the second and third most popular destinations.
The quality-price ratio remains the most decisive criterion when choosing a trip (92.2% of responses), far ahead of the second factor, the time spent on round trips, which accounted for 25.5%.
"The work carried out by travel agencies means that there is now a much more competitive offer on the market in destinations such as the Caribbean or Africa than in Portugal," said the president of ANAV, quoted by the Lusa news agency.
"Contrary to popular belief, prices charged in the domestic market are not the only explanation for the trends observed in recent years," adds Miguel Quintas.
The 2025 Summer Barometer is based on responses from 51 travel agencies to a six-question questionnaire and aims to identify consumer trends, motivations and priorities.
