Amorim Lopes: "Milei shows that our ideas work"

Amorim Lopes: "Milei shows that our ideas work"

Congressman Mário Amorim Lopes said this Saturday that the Liberal Initiative is the "face in Portugal" of the ideas Javier Milei has implemented in Argentina. After listing several economic indicators in the South American country that have improved since the Argentine President's administration began, the future IL vice president stated that "Milei is simply the executor of our ideas" and a demonstration that they "actually work."

Amorim Lopes began by arguing that the liberals' ambition "is not utopian, it's real," then went on to use the example of a country that, like Portugal, is "planted on the seashore" and was under socialist rule for several years. "In the last two years, [this country] has put its public finances in order, inflation has gone from 30% to 1%, the deficit has turned into a budget surplus, the currency appreciated 44% against the dollar in April, the economy grew 8%, and if this continues, it will grow 5.5% by 2025—one of the highest growth rates in the world," he said.

"Those who think my words are about Javier Milei are mistaken. Milei is merely the executor of our ideas, liberal ideas. And he demonstrates that they actually work, that they improve people's lives, both in Portugal and in Argentina. These are ideas that succeed, bringing progress, wealth, and prosperity. Ideas that reduce poverty. These ideas also have a face in Portugal, and that face is the Liberal Initiative. These ideas have a face in Portugal, and it is the Liberal Initiative," he stated, before handing the floor over to Mariana Leitão.
