Expert reveals 3 short haircuts that are trending in 2025

Practicality and modernity are the key words behind short haircuts . Quicker to wash and, in most cases, easier to style, they give women a more casual look.
"I think short cuts are always in style, what changes are the variations. And they're always a trend for authentic, modern people. I think they bring a look of empowerment and self-confidence to women," says hairstylist Rangel Portela .
In 2025, three styles in particular are gaining popularity among short-hair fans, according to the professional: the trinity, the French bob, and a reimagining of the textured crop.
Three cuts on the rise1. Trinity
Inspired by the iconic character from The Matrix, this cut combines elements of the pixie and bob. It's slightly longer on top and at the back, near the nape of the neck. The front and sides feature shorter layers.
The cut has a somewhat cyberpunk look, and Rangel says it's perfect for anyone looking for a hairstyle that breaks away from the norm, as well as being very practical and easy to care for.

2. French Bob
It's a kind of reinterpretation of the timeless bob. With slightly curved ends and a straight finish, it's a little shorter than the traditional bob and may or may not come with bangs. It can be worn straight, but when textured and messy, it's even more charming and daring.

3. Textured crop
For men, it's often worn with the sides very close to the scalp and a slightly longer top. For women, it's been worn with the sides slightly less shaved and the front much more voluminous, sometimes even forming a fringe or quiff. When styled, the quiff can be textured and look very modern, tossed upward.

But how do you choose the short cut that best suits you? Rangel says the cuts mentioned are quite versatile and suit virtually all face shapes. However, in addition to visagist analyses, which consider the best styles for each face shape, he believes the stylist must understand the client's routine and preferences.
"A good professional will evaluate your hair texture and daily care to determine if a particular cut is right for you. Depending on your hair texture, you may have a little more difficulty styling it and not like the results after washing and styling or drying it at home," says the expert.
Style, according to Rangel, also can't be ignored. Those with more laid-back looks, if they want to invest in a short cut, tend to opt for the trinity bob. Those with more classic tastes, even if they want to experiment, will prefer cuts with more possibilities, such as bobs, which can be styled in both bold and modern ways, as well as classic and romantic.
