Singer Preta Gil , who passed away at the age of 50 last Sunday (20), in the United States , will be laid to rest this Friday, July 25, in a ceremony open to the public at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, one of the most symbolic spaces in Brazilian culture. The information was officially released by the artist's family on Tuesday night (22), through social media.
The ceremony will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is expected to bring together fans, friends, family, and artists who have followed her journey throughout her more than two-decade career. The announcement was published simultaneously on the profiles of Preta Gil, Gilberto Gil, Flora Gil, and Bela Gil , and reinforced the singer's lifelong desire: to have a farewell marked by the celebration of her art, legacy, and affection.
"Wake of Preta Maria Gadelha Gil Moreira, Friday, July 25, from 9 am to 1 pm: ceremony open to the public at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. We will celebrate her life, art and legacy," said the statement shared on the family's social media.
Preta Gil wanted a funeral like a 'micareta'
Preta Gil has never treated death as taboo. In a relaxed interview with the YouTube channel "Põe na Roda," the artist even described what she would like her own funeral to be like: "I want it to be a real micareta. If Ivete comes after me, put her, even if she's old and senile, on top of the float," she joked, referring to her friend Ivete Sangalo .
