Extremist movements are being monitored by the police

The minister was speaking in a debate on the internal security report marked by the removal of references to far-right groups from the document.
The 2024 Annual Internal Security Report (RASI) was discussed in parliament today and marked Maria Lúcia Amaral's debut in the Assembly of the Republic as a minister.
During the debate, PS , PCP , Bloco de Esquerda , Livre and PAN questioned the minister about the removal of the chapter that referred to far-right movements.
In response, the minister said that the data mentioned "were monitored and continue to be monitored by the institutions, namely by the Criminal Police", stressing that it is "more important that this monitoring continues" than knowing what was or was not taken from a report that has contributions from all criminal police bodies.
The minister also considered that the 2024 RASI reveals “positive signs but also reveals difficulties and challenges that should not be ignored”.
As “positive signs” from RASI, the minister highlighted the drop in general crime, which “indicates that the security forces are working effectively and that the measures adopted over the last year are bearing fruit”.
In turn, he highlighted that the “worrying indicators require serious reflection”, such as “the increase, albeit not very significant, in violent and serious crime, group crime and juvenile delinquency that has been growing since 2021, the increase in crimes against sexual freedom, along with violence against minors and the “scourge of domestic violence”.
Maria Lúcia Amaral also said that the path taken last year will continue to be followed, such as the valorization of security forces and the reduction of violent and serious crime.
