US. EU retaliation targets industrial sectors

The European Commission is already outlining what new tariffs it will use if necessary to retaliate against Donald Trump's decision to impose 30% tariffs on European countries, reports the US website Politico . This new EU tariff package, which will come into effect if the US tariffs are implemented, targets the car, food, and aircraft export sectors—a value of approximately €72 billion, as previously announced by European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic.
The list of goods is about 200 pages long, according to the website, and the most affected sector is aircraft and aircraft parts, with tariffs reaching 11 billion euros in this case. Sectors such as car and car parts production, as well as electrical products, follow.
In fact, industrial products account for the largest share of the measures, accounting for €65 billion. The remaining taxes are related to agriculture, totaling €6.4 billion.
According to Politico, the Commission presented three main reasons to the member states, which will have to approve the new tariffs, for imposing these countermeasures on the United States.
First, there's "the need to rebalance/level the playing field in light of US tariffs affecting EU exports to the US." Then, it's necessary to consider the "availability of alternative sources of supply outside or within the EU." Finally, it's important to understand whether these are "products where the risk of relocation is high."
