Ganna wins "chrono" and Almeida gains 10 seconds on Vingegaard

Portuguese cyclist João Almeida (UAE Emirates) today reduced the deficit to 40 seconds against the leader of the Vuelta a España, the Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a bike), after the 18th stage, won by Italian Filippo Ganna (INEOS).

In a time trial in Valladolid, reduced to 12.2 kilometers for safety reasons, Ganna triumphed in 13 minutes, one second less than the Australian Jay Vine (UAE Emirates) and eight seconds less than João Almeida, who gained 10 seconds on Vingegaard.

Overall, Vingegaard now has a 40-second lead over Almeida and a 2.39-minute lead over Britain's Thomas Pidcock (Q36.5), in third place.

On Friday, the 19th and penultimate stage of the 80th edition of the Vuelta takes place, between Rueda and Guijuelo.
