Oliveirinha Sports Complex now has synthetic turf

Yesterday was a day of celebration for the Associação Recreativa Cultural de Oliveirinha (ARCO). The Aveiro club’s Sports Complex, which has had a natural grass pitch for many years, now has a second football pitch, made of synthetic grass, with the legal dimensions to host eleven-a-side football, allowing the Aveiro club to have better conditions to continue its work in favour of youth football. “A moment of celebration”, said the vice-president of the Aveiro City Council, Rogério Carlos, for whom “honouring commitments” has always been the Aveiro local authority’s way of working. “The younger kids now have at their disposal a pitch with all the conditions to do what they like most”, he stressed, adding that “in a club like ARCO, more than scoring goals at the weekend, it is important for the athletes to grow as people”. Pedro Sucena, chairman of the ARCO board, was clearly a happy man. He asked the athletes to “make the most of this field”, while he thanked the parents for continuing to “believe in our club”. Firmino Ferreira, chairman of the Oliveirinha Parish Council, praised “the fulfilment of the commitments” made by the municipal council, praised the club’s leaders and did not forget “the people in the council who fight for an increasingly better parish”. Finally, and even before the unveiling of the plaque commemorating the inauguration of the new synthetic pitch, the Mayor of Aveiro, José Ribau Esteves, recalled that this investment was only made possible because it was applied “where there is life, where there is a project and where there is a future”.
The mayor of Aveiro highlighted the importance of the work carried out by ARCO in the area of youth football, but also in the equally important aspect of citizenship. “I thank ARCO for providing a very important public service”, he praised. Finally, Ribau Esteves made a point of stressing that this investment of 280 thousand euros in the Oliveirinha Sports Complex “completes the commitment we made 12 years ago” and which consisted of putting an end to “bare” pitches in the municipality of Aveiro. He recalled that the Taboeira Sports Complex, a club “that was left without a pitch due to the construction of the Aveiro Municipal Stadium”, was “the first major project” of a series of others, including the construction of the Training Ground Complex at the Aveiro Municipal Stadium, loaned to Beira-Mar and, later, the inauguration of the synthetic grass pitches of Estrela Azul, Bonsucesso, Barroca and Eixense. “Our commitments to our clubs, in the area of football, were fully honored”, concluded the mayor.
