BELGRADE, July 7 - RIA Novosti. Protesting students and opposition supporters in Serbia have been blocking major streets and traffic in Belgrade since Monday morning, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Protests with traffic blocking in Serbia have continued in recent days at temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius. On Monday, protesters called on supporters to hold unauthorized rallies at a dozen locations in Belgrade from 7:00 (8:00 Moscow time). On the largest boulevard, Kralja Aleksandra, in central Belgrade, students blocked traffic for less than an hour at the intersection with Professor Mihajlo Djuric Street in front of the Faculty of Law. Half an hour later, several police squads in masks and light gear showed up, displaced the protesters without using force and restored traffic. Serbian police detained 13 people at unauthorized protests on Saturday and a Slovenian citizen who ran over one of the protesters in the city of Zrenjanin on Saturday night, the press service of the Serbian Interior Ministry reported. The Supreme Belgrade Prosecutor's Office called the blocking of roads and traffic by protesters illegal on July 2, noting that the police can independently take measures depending on the situation and detain participants in such actions. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic promised on Tuesday evening to detain all protesters for attempts to block the international airport and critical infrastructure in the country. On the evening of June 28, the ultimatum that protesting students and supporters of the Serbian opposition issued to the authorities on June 25 expired, demanding that they set a date for early parliamentary elections and remove the tent city of the president's supporters in front of the Assembly. Some of the protesters, after a rally at Slavija Square, where, according to the Interior Ministry, 36,000 people gathered, tried to break through the police cordon at the park near the presidential administration, where his supporters were located. The demonstrators threw firecrackers, stones and bottles at the police, and the security forces pushed the crowd back using spray, batons and shields. As Interior Minister Ivica Dacic later reported, 48 Interior Ministry employees were injured during the riots in Belgrade on Sunday night, and 77 people were detained. According to him, 22 people sought emergency medical care, two of them with serious injuries. Radio and Television of Serbia reported the detention of eight more suspects in crimes against the constitutional order on Sunday. The Supreme Court in Belgrade released them from custody on Tuesday, to which the Supreme Prosecutor's Office said it would appeal. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that "only a miracle" did the riots in Belgrade leave no casualties. The Speaker of the Skupština (parliament speaker) and former Prime Minister Ana Brnabic complained that the protesters in Belgrade "called for the destruction of Serbia in a civil war."

BELGRADE, July 7 - RIA Novosti. Protesting students and opposition supporters in Serbia have been blocking major streets and traffic in Belgrade since Monday morning, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

Protests with traffic blockades in Serbia have continued in recent days with temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius. On Monday, protesters called on supporters to hold unauthorized rallies at a dozen locations in Belgrade from 7:00 (8:00 Moscow time).

On the largest boulevard Kralja Aleksandra in the center of Belgrade, students blocked traffic for less than an hour at the intersection with Professor Mihajlo Djuric Street in front of the Faculty of Law. Half an hour later, several police units in masks and light gear showed up, displaced the protesters without using force and restored traffic.

Serbian police detained 13 people at unauthorized protests on Saturday, as well as a Slovenian citizen who ran over one of the protesters in the city of Zrenjanin on Saturday night, the press service of the Serbian Interior Ministry reported.

The Supreme Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade called the blocking of roads and traffic by protesters on July 2 illegal, noting that the police can independently take measures depending on the situation and detain participants in such actions.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic vowed late Tuesday to detain all protesters attempting to block the country's international airport and critical infrastructure.

On the evening of June 28, the ultimatum that protesting students and supporters of the Serbian opposition issued to the authorities on June 25 expired, demanding that they set a date for early parliamentary elections and remove the tent city of the president's supporters in front of the Assembly. Some of the protesters, after a rally on Slavija Square, where, according to the Interior Ministry, 36,000 people gathered, tried to break through the police cordon at the park near the presidential administration, where his supporters were located. The demonstrators threw firecrackers, stones and bottles at the police, and the security forces pushed the crowd back using spray, batons and shields.

As Interior Minister Ivica Dacic reported later, 48 Interior Ministry employees were injured and 77 people were detained during the riots in Belgrade on Sunday night. According to him, 22 people sought emergency medical care, two of them with serious injuries. Radio and Television of Serbia reported that eight more suspects in crimes against the constitutional order were detained on Sunday.
