The regional Ministry of Health dispelled common myths about donation

Today, June 14, is World Donor Day. On the occasion of the holiday, the Ministry of Health of the Novgorod Region reminds that any healthy adult can save someone's life, and tells what myths related to blood donations are most often believed by people. Interestingly, some of them are not without common sense, while others have no basis at all.
So, the myth that you can't eat before donating blood is "half-true". In fact, it is not only possible, but also necessary to have a light snack - with the exception of dairy and fatty products. Another misconception is that you can't donate blood after childhood illnesses. Here, everything is individual and depends on the illness; most "childhood" illnesses are not a contraindication.
Another myth is that "it takes a long time to recover after donation." In fact, the body replenishes blood volume in 1-2 days, and cells - within a couple of weeks. The misconception that you can get infected with something through a needle has also been debunked: this is impossible, since all the instruments are disposable and sterile. Donation also does not cause harm to health. On the contrary, regular donors have a lower risk of strokes and heart disease. And recently, donors have also been equated with volunteers .
In general, if a potential donor has no contraindications, then donating blood will not harm him in any way. And you can find out more about who is allowed to be a donor in the official community of the Novgorod Regional Blood Transfusion Station or by phone (8162) 64-09-54 from 8:00 to 16:00.
