The head of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Bogachev, told RIA Novosti that a strong magnetic storm had begun on Earth.
According to him, the storm peaked on the morning of May 29 Moscow time. Its level is close to G3.
"This morning a strong magnetic storm was registered on Earth. Its level is close to G3. The peak of this storm occurred between 3 and 6 o'clock Moscow time," Bogachev noted.
He clarified that the phenomenon was observed against the backdrop of a noticeable increase in geomagnetic activity, which formed in the solar atmosphere due to new large coronal holes.
