The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, confirmed on his official website that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue to exist and the tradition of reincarnation will continue after his death.
"In response to numerous requests, I confirm that the Dalai Lama institution will continue to exist," he said in a statement.
He noted that not only representatives of Tibetan spiritual communities, but also members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, the Central Tibetan Administration, as well as Buddhists from various regions of Russia, Asia and mainland China asked him to preserve the tradition.
In addition, the Dalai Lama recalled that on September 24, 2011, he promised that upon reaching the age of 90, he would hold consultations with Buddhist practitioners regarding the future of the institute.
