Money for a ticket purchased at a non-refundable rate can be returned if there are good reasons, lawyer Maria Yakovleva told the Prime agency.
The rules of air and rail transportation regulate this process in such a way that a passenger who cancels a trip can return at least part of the amount for a valid reason.
According to her, first of all, a refund of the cost of a non-refundable ticket is possible in the event of illness of the passenger or members of his family. A similar rule applies in the event of the death of a close relative. In all situations, it is necessary to provide the carrier with supporting documents.
The grounds for a full or partial refund, even for a non-refundable fare, include flight cancellation or delay due to the carrier's fault, as well as force majeure. However, it is important to understand that the reason "changed my mind about going" is not a sufficient reason for a refund in this case, Yakovleva concluded.
