A Yerevan court has ordered the two-month arrest of Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhian, satisfying the request of the investigative bodies. Lawyer Ara Zohrabyan called the decision illegal and announced his intention to appeal.
The defense insists that there are no grounds for such a strict preventive measure.
"The court granted the investigation's motion and arrested Mikael Ajapakhyan for two months. The decision is illegal and unfounded. The defense intends to appeal the decision," the lawyer said.
Let us recall that Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan was detained in Armenia on suspicion of calling for the overthrow of the government.
Earlier it was reported that the investigation had combined two corruption cases against Timur Ivanov.
