Danish Economy Minister: Increased military spending a threat to EU financial stability

Danish Economy Minister: Increased military spending a threat to EU financial stability

According to Stephanie Lose, this could happen if member countries fail to curb the rapid growth of budget deficits and public debt.

Increased military spending could threaten the EU's financial stability if member states fail to curb the rapid growth of budget deficits and public debt, Danish Economy Minister Stefanie Lose said in an interview with the Euractiv portal, TASS reports.

"If we don't accompany these measures with a well-thought-out strategy to ensure the sustainability of public finances, then I think the rising debt burden could become a problem," Lose said.

Europe already faces dual pressures from US trade tariffs and tough competition from China, she said.

Earlier, the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance countries agreed to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP following the NATO summit, which took place on June 24-25 in The Hague.
