The Russian Finance Ministry is against expanding preferential family mortgages to families with one child under 18. This was stated at a briefing by the head of the ministry, Anton Siluanov, TASS reports.

"Yes, indeed, we spoke out against this, because the obligations that we have taken on are difficult for the budget in the context of financial restrictions. Therefore, now expanding the opportunities for family mortgages... we spoke out against it, and this is quite justified today," Siluanov said.

In early March, RBC, citing a list of instructions following a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on February 28, reported that the government was discussing the issue of expanding family mortgages to families with one child under 18 years of age.

Today, preferential mortgages are available to families with children up to six years of age inclusive, as well as families raising a minor child with a disability. The minimum rate under the program is 6%.
