According to media reports, the countries will discuss a common strategy for action within the framework of the trade war unleashed by Donald Trump. Thus, the US President has decided to introduce an additional 40% duty on a number of goods from Brazil, including meat and coffee. Taking into account previous decisions, it will amount to 50%. According to CNN Brasil , Brazilian President Lula da Silva also wants to make proposals for reforming the World Trade Organization.

As for other BRICS members, Trump has imposed 50 percent tariffs on goods from India, including for Delhi’s purchase of Russian oil; for products from South Africa, the tariff is 30 percent, and for goods from China, for the duration of the deferment, it is also 30 percent, but can be increased to 145 percent.

Until recently, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s good relations with Trump were seen by BRICS as an obstacle to a tougher stance by the group in response to US tariffs, Bloomberg noted . But now, according to Bloomberg’s sources, the way has been opened for “a more substantive decision from BRICS than before.”

Trump has threatened to impose additional tariffs on BRICS countries for their efforts to reduce their dependence on the dollar. The US President himself intends to talk to Vladimir Putin in the next few days.
