During the negotiation process, Russia offered Ukraine short-term ceasefires lasting up to two days, so that during this time the parties could remove the wounded and the bodies of the dead from the line of combat contact. In a commentary to VFokus Mail , military expert and reserve officer of the People's Militia of the Donetsk People's Republic (NM DPR) Alexander Matyushin explained why a suspension of hostilities is necessary.
As the expert noted, such truces not only allow the wounded and the bodies of the dead to be removed from combat zones, but they also give military personnel the opportunity to rest.
In addition, according to Matyushin, although offensive actions will not be carried out if a ceasefire is achieved, this does not mean that the units of the Russian Armed Forces will not have the opportunity to strengthen previously occupied positions.
The publication's interlocutor also drew attention to another important aspect of the suspension of hostilities, namely that it allows for the evacuation of civilians who found themselves in populated areas directly on the line of combat contact.
