Scientists have concluded that anxiety and depressive disorders may reduce the effectiveness of drugs that lower blood pressure.
The authors of a study published in the journal Systemic Hypertension stated that hypertension may be a cause of certain phobias, which in turn can lead to depression, anxiety, and PTSD. These problems can "create the ground" for drug resistance, as cortisol levels in the body increase, blood thickens, and glucose levels rise.
Drug resistance occurs in every tenth or even every fifth hypertensive patient.
