Call from Bakırhan and Hatimoğulları, who visited Demirtaş: We need them

DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who has been imprisoned in Edirne Prison for nearly nine years, and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, who was replaced by a trustee.

The visit started around 11:30 am and the presidents made a press statement after the visit.

Bakırhan, the first to speak, said, "I saw him very well and healthy. I saw him in very hopeful, strong, and high spirits. He sends his warmest regards to all of you. They are closely following and supporting the process we are carrying out from within. They want it to conclude positively. They have said they will assume their duties and responsibilities to ensure this process progresses. There is an ECHR ruling. For this process to progress more effectively, our friends arrested in the Kobani case must be released. We need them to carry this process forward. We need our friends during this historic period. While there is great support for this in Türkiye, our friends must be released so we can evolve this into a positive peace."

"EVEN IF WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS PROCESS, THEY SHOULD BE OUTSIDE"

When asked if they expected any concrete developments, Hatimoğulları said, "We had a very productive meeting with them. They expressed their strong support for this process to be concluded quickly. There's a very important decision at hand. The latest decision is comprehensive. According to this decision, our friends must not be locked up for even a second. According to the ECHR's decision, our friends must be out as soon as possible. They must be out of court, as required by law and conscience. Even though we are not discussing or discussing this process, our friends must be out of court, as per the ECHR's decision. Besides all this, in this process where we are discussing peace, of course, the urgency of such a result would make the people of our 72 nations extremely happy."
