Fire turned it into a ghost village

Fire turned it into a ghost village

The spreading fire caused damage to houses and barns in the evacuated Sucıktı, Tosunlar, Üzümlü, Ortaköy and Karadoğan neighborhoods.

While İbrahim Erkan (81), who was bedridden and living alone in his house in the Suçıktı Neighborhood, lost his life due to the fire, the dozer operator İbrahim Demir, who came from the Ilgın district of Konya, was martyred during the intervention in the flames, and the forest worker Ragıp Şahin, who was working in the same region, was injured.

Almost all the buildings in Tosunlar Neighborhood, which has 40 households and a population of 200, where the fire started, were rendered unusable.

Residents of the neighborhood who came to the area covered in black due to the fire experienced the sadness of losing their homes.

The area, which turned into a "ghost village" due to the fire, was viewed from the air.

"OUR 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE ARE GONE"

Mustafa Keskin, a 57-year-old resident of the neighborhood, told AA that he and his wife tried to save the bees in the first stage of the fire.

Keskin stated that he was able to save only 4 of the 80 hives and noted the following:

"The fire environment was complete chaos. We were left with nothing, our animals perished. After the fire, we were left with only the clothes on our backs. Our 40-year savings were gone. All of our own products were destroyed. I had 30-year-old olive trees, they were burned. We have nothing left to do now, we are sad."

Yakup Avcı, a 32-year-old resident of the neighborhood, also stated that his house burned down and said, "We feel the same way a person feels when they lose something. The situation is terrible, our animals are dead, we are heartbroken. We continue to live, but our situation is bad."

"IT BECAME A GHOST VILLAGE"

Levent Köymen, the headman of Karadoğan Neighborhood, who was evacuated due to the fire, said that the fire reached their house due to the effect of the wind.

Köymen, who stated that they evacuated the houses after this, said, "Our village has become like a ghost village. These are our ancestors' lands. Dozens of houses are in an unbearable state. Our job is difficult, I don't want such a fire to happen to anyone."

Aziz Bağcı, a 34-year-old resident of the neighborhood, said that the fire had also burned his memories of the neighborhood where he spent his childhood, and emphasized that the only consolation was to save their lives.

Ahmet Kesen, 68, also stated that approximately 800 liters of olive oil had become unusable.
