The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. in the Büyük Bölcek neighborhood. Uğur Deniz went to his father-in-law, Yılmaz Atak, to speak with his wife, whom he had been estranged from for two years and whom he was in the process of divorcing. An argument broke out between the father-in-law, Yılmaz Atak, and Uğur Deniz, a father of two who stated that he did not want a divorce.

As the argument escalated into a fight, Yılmaz Atak fired nine shots at his son-in-law, Uğur Deniz. Deniz was covered in blood. Police arrived at the house upon hearing the gunshot and took him into custody. Paramedics arrived at the scene and determined Deniz was dead. His body was taken to Aksaray Training and Research Hospital for an autopsy.

An investigation has been launched regarding the incident.
