Remember the LEMAN Magazine incident? A cartoon by a cartoonist was misunderstood, leading to a social media campaign, followed by several groups attempting to suppress the magazine. The incidents culminated in the arrests of the magazine's cartoonist, managing editor, and accountant. The magazine's employees weren't the only ones arrested.
On the evening of the events, psychologist Aslı Aydemir was on Mis Sokak with her husband. Mis Sokak used to be a more laid-back street. Now, it's been revitalized with numerous cafes and bars. It's become a place where people enjoy themselves after work. Aydemir was probably hoping for a pleasant evening. That wasn't the case.
One street up from Mis Sokak is the LEMAN Magazine building. When Aslı Aydemir and her husband heard the commotion and slogans outside the magazine, they went to see what was going on. An angry crowd was chanting slogans. Aslı Aydemir apparently intended to see what was happening before returning to her table, because she hadn't left her beer on the table; she had picked it up.
