Trump announces new tariff rate on steel imports to be raised to 50%

Trump made statements regarding the steel industry at US Steel's facility in Pennsylvania. Stating that tariffs applied to steel imports will be increased, Trump said, "We will increase the customs duty applied to steel imported into the US from 25 percent to 50 percent."
Trump stated that increasing steel tariffs would further secure the steel industry in the United States.
US President Trump signed executive orders imposing a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imports on February 10. The tariffs came into effect on March 12.
