Umayyad Mosque's 5,500 square meters of specially produced carpets from Turkey

The Baath regime ended in Syria, Turkey 's southern neighbor, where the civil war began in 2011, after the opposition took control of the capital Damascus on December 7 last year. While a new administration was formed in the country, many people who were forced to migrate began to return to their homes after years.

Following the public demand to replace the worn-out floor carpets of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, one of the symbols of Syria, work began in Gaziantep , where the majority of machine-made carpets are produced. The team, which included city administrators, carpet sector representatives, academics and mufti officials, first went to Syria to examine the Umayyad Mosque and received ideas from local Syrian administrators and opinion leaders. 5,500 SQUARE METERS OF CARPET WERE PRODUCED

After reaching an agreement on measurements, colors and textures in Syria , the production of a burgundy and pure yellow patterned carpet for the floor of the Umayyad Mosque began. After a month of work, the carpets were sent to Damascus by trucks and laid on the floor of the mosque.

The last carpets, whose production was completed in a carpet factory in the organized industrial zone, were loaded onto trucks today and sent to Damascus. The 5,500 square meters of carpets, which were completed with work carried out on a 24-hour basis for the last month, were ready for the first tarawih prayer to be performed on Friday at the Umayyad Mosque.
