US approves nearly $825 million in arms sales to Ukraine

US approves nearly $825 million in arms sales to Ukraine

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), affiliated with the US Department of Defense, made a written statement regarding the sales approval.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a decision approving the possible sale to the Ukrainian government of 'Air-Delivered Munitions' and related equipment with an estimated cost of $ 825 million," the statement said.

The statement stated that Ukraine requested 3,350 Long-Range Attack Munitions (ERAM) missiles and equipment compatible with these systems, such as Global Positioning Systems, and that the official notification required for the sale was sent to the US Congress.

The US Congress must give final approval

The statement also reported that the sale includes missile containers, spare parts, support equipment, software, technical documentation, training and logistics materials.

The statement, which emphasized that the sale would not change the "fundamental military balance" in the region, said, "This sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the security of an ally that is the guarantor of political stability and economic progress in Europe."

It was noted that Ukraine will make the purchase within the scope of the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program, with financing provided by countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway .

The sale requires final approval from the US Congress.
