1836 - Samuel Colt patented the gun he produced (the Colt revolver).
1921 - Red Army invades Georgia: The Red Army enters Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
1925 - The Treason Law was amended: Religion could not be used as a political instrument and this crime would be considered treason.
1932 - Adolf Hitler was granted German citizenship, enabling him to participate in the 1932 presidential elections of the Weimar Republic.

1933 - The first U.S. naval ship built as an aircraft carrier, the USS Ranger, was launched.

1986 - Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos fled the country after 20 years in power. Corazon Aquino came to power.

1990 - Sandinista leader President Daniel Ortega loses the election in Nicaragua to Violeta Chamorro.
1991 - Iraq announced its decision to withdraw from Kuwait. This ended Operation Desert Storm, conducted jointly by American and Allied Forces. A ceasefire agreement was signed on February 28.
1991 - The Warsaw Pact was dissolved.
1994 - Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre: In the West Bank city of Hebron, 29 Palestinians were killed and 125 were injured when a Jew named Baruch Goldstein opened fire. Goldstein was lynched by an angry mob. In the ensuing riots, 26 Palestinians and 9 Israelis were killed.
1994 - Germany launched an investigation into the money sent to Germany by the Welfare Party under the name of "aid to Bosnia".
1994 - The Democracy Party (DEP) decided not to participate in the local elections.
2000 - Carlos Santana wins 8 Grammy Awards, tying the record for most Grammys won by an artist at once, previously held by Michael Jackson for his album "Thriller".
2003 - The Prime Ministry's Memorandum regarding the Iraq crisis, authorizing the government to send the Turkish Armed Forces to foreign countries and to have foreign armed forces in Turkey, was submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
2009 - Turkish Airlines Flight 1951: The plane, which took off from Istanbul at 8.22 am, crashed into three pieces before landing at Schipol Airport.
