Green areas in Seferihisar, one of the holiday resorts of Izmir, turned grey after the fire

Green areas in Seferihisar, one of the holiday resorts of Izmir, turned grey after the fire

A fire broke out in the forest between Kuyucak in the Menderes district and Orhanlı in Seferihisar at around 13:00 on June 29. Numerous teams were dispatched to the area after people in the area reported the fire. The fire spread to a wide area in a short time due to the wind, and the Atatürk and Cumhuriyet neighborhoods in Seferihisar and four rural neighborhoods were evacuated. 21 people affected by the smoke received outpatient treatment in hospitals. One person caught in the flames was rescued by the teams.

The fire was brought under control yesterday with the intervention of teams. In the damage assessment studies conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change teams, damage was detected in 155 buildings and 156 independent sections. Among these sections, 110 houses, 2 workplaces and 1 barn were found to be destroyed and heavily damaged. The burned houses and the area were viewed with a drone.

On the other hand, the green areas on the coastline of Seferihisar, a popular holiday resort where green meets blue, were completely reduced to ashes. The forest surrounding the area turned grey.
