Loan to mafia boss confessed after 4 years

Loan to mafia boss confessed after 4 years

The 550 million lira loan provided by Halkbank to a company with ties to organized crime leader Ayhan Bora Kaplan was discussed in the Parliament. Halkbank General Manager Osman Arslan said that Kaplan was not known to the public at the time the loan was provided.

Arslan, who claimed that the file of the loan given to the company was 'solid', said, "There is nothing against the practices and a significant portion of our loans have been collected. It is one of our most solid loans." While the Halkbank audit report was being discussed in the Parliamentary SEE Commission, CHP member Mehmet Tahtasız brought up the loan provided to the company with ties to Kaplan and asked, "How was this loan provided despite the MASAK report, was it collected?"

SECURED LOANS

General Manager Arslan said, ''This criminal organization and the companies directly controlled by Ayhan Bora Kaplan were not given credit,'' and continued: ''The incidents related to these companies occurred 2 years after the credit was given. At that time, Ayhan Bora Kaplan's name was not known to us, and he had no partnership. These credits were secured credits. They were also reported by the BDDK. We did not disclose them to the public because every statement we make elicits a different reaction.''

The remaining balance is collected

Halkbank General Manager Osman Arslan, who noted that the BDDK sent the report directly to the prosecutor's office and that there was absolutely nothing against banking practices and customs, said, "A significant portion of our loans have been collected, and the remaining balance continues to be collected. There is no problem. In fact, these files are truly one of the most solid loans."
