New step from local markets in Istanbul before Ramadan: Price fixing and discounts!

Milliyet.com.tr/ÖZEL Istanbul Food and Necessary Goods Retailers Association (Istanbul PERDER ) announced that in addition to the sale of discounted red meat in local markets, prices of basic food products are also fixed and discounted.
AGRICULTURAL CREDIT FIXED THE PRICES OF 157 PRODUCTS
On the other hand, Agricultural Credit Cooperatives announced that they have discounted 157 products before Ramadan and fixed the prices at all cooperative market sales points until March 15.
ANOTHER CAMPAIGN FROM THE RETAILERS FEDERATION
The President of the Turkish Retail Federation (TPF), Ömer Düzgün, announced the other day that they launched Ramadan campaigns to keep prices balanced. Düzgün said, “As local chains across Türkiye, we organized special Ramadan campaigns.”
SHOULD CHAIN MARKETS ALSO RUN CAMPAIGNS?
In addition to local markets, a call came from Consumer Confederation President Aydın Ağaoğlu to chain markets. Ağaoğlu said, “Make some discounts on basic food products for citizens for 1 month.”
The statements of the Consumer Confederation President Aydın Ağaoğlu are as follows: “It has become necessary for large chain markets to immediately participate in this campaign. Due to high inflation, low-income people have difficulty accessing basic food and basic needs. In these days when we are about to enter the month of Ramadan , iftar and sahur tables are becoming expensive.
'CONSUMERS ARE NOW COMPARING PRICES'
As is known, consumers have the opportunity to compare prices as chain markets with over 200 stores transfer their prices for basic food and essential products to the system on marketfiyati.org.tr, which has been recently launched.
'THERE WILL BE NO PRICE INCREASE IN LOCAL MARKETS FOR 1 MONTH'
PERDER, which had previously signed an agreement with the Meat and Milk Institution, had committed to selling minced meat to consumers at a fixed price of 379 TL and cubed meat at 399 TL throughout Ramadan, and now local retailers have stated that they will not increase the prices of basic food and necessities during Ramadan, and will also apply discounts of up to 25 percent if possible.
'A PERSON'S QUESTION COMES... WHERE ARE THESE CHAIN MARKETS'
Here one is tempted to ask the following question: Where are these chain markets? Three-letter, international brands... This is our call to these chain markets, producers, and wholesalers who have been doing business for 11 months and making money. Give some discounts on basic food products for the citizens for 1 month.
WHAT SHOULD SOMEONE DO IF THEY SEE AN EXORBITANT PRICE?
It would be beneficial for all consumers to submit their complaints to the ALO 175 consumer hotline or to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board with documents such as screenshots and label photos when they see price increases or excessive price differences, as the honorary inspector of the Ministry of Trade does.
'THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY THE LOWER PRICE'
In addition, if there is a difference between the prices on the marketfiyati.org.tr website and the cash register price applied in the store, the consumer must pay the lower price. Otherwise, he/she has the right to request a refund of the difference requested from him/her.
It has been revealed that there are differences between the price on the Marketfiyati.org.tr website and the price tag in the market. Citizens can apply to the Consumer Arbitration Committees to get the difference refunded.
'IT'S 134 TL IN ONE PLACE, IT'S 200 TL IN ANOTHER MARKET'
Following the discounts of Agricultural Credit Cooperatives , local markets are also offering discounts. Yesterday I went to a local market, not in the fruit and vegetable section but I came across seriously affordable prices on products such as toilet paper and paper towels, and I even bought them. I bought 40-packs of 3-ply toilet paper for 240 TL. 32-packs were 300 TL in another brand. Again, 6-packs of 3-ply paper towels were 67 TL in the same market. I bought two for 134 TL. 12-packs of paper towels were 199 TL in another brand.
RAMADAN ADJUSTMENT FOR EGG PRICES: 'WE EXPECT A DECREASE NOW'
Now all sectors, producers, wholesalers, retailers must make this sacrifice. The President of the Egg Producers Central Union (YUMBİR) said that they will not increase egg prices during Ramadan. Meanwhile, due to the egg shortage in the USA due to bird flu, in order to prevent a shortage in the domestic market due to the demand from there, our Ministry of Trade decided to impose a tax of 50 cents per kilogram on egg exports. This is a measure taken to prevent a shortage in the domestic market due to exports. Now we expect a decrease in egg prices.”
