Promotion protest by IMM employees in Saraçhane

The employees of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, İSKİ, İETT and the municipality gathered in Saraçhane, claiming that the promotion tender between the banks from which they receive their salaries and İBB was not transparent. İBB employees reacted by claiming that the process was not explained to them. A large number of İBB employees attended the statement organized upon the call of BEM-BİR-SEN, Tüm Bel-Sen, Hizmet-İş, TES-İŞ, Tüm Yerel-Sen and Türk Yerel Hizmet-Sen.

In a joint statement made on behalf of the union representatives, it was emphasized that the promotion tender was not canceled despite the demands of the employees. Union member Mehmet Şah Akto, who made the statement, said, "In this process, in the salary promotion tender process made by the IMM authorities, first of all, the promotion contracts of IMM, IETT and ISKI were going to end on different dates, respectively July 27, July 7 and July 22. However, doing all of them together within the IMM made it impossible to make a comparison between the 3 institutions and seriously weakened the conditions of competition. Following this merger, the promotion process was carried out within the IMM and employees or unions were not included in the process in any way."

Claiming that they were not informed, Akto said, "On June 13, 2025, a commission member was requested from the unions for the tender held on June 26, 2025. No information was provided about which banks were invited and the content of the invitation letters during the process carried out within the IMM. From the specifications prepared without notice during the tender process to even which employees in the IMM institutions the promotional tender would cover, it was hidden. After the tender process caused a reaction from the workers and was reflected in the press, the tender specifications and invitation letters were published on the IMM website 4 days after the tender was held."

After the statement, the employees gathered and later left Saraçhane. The unions stated that they would follow the process and emphasized that they would continue to stand by the employees.
