It made a big splash when it was released: Basic Instinct is being remade

Directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas, the film created a huge controversy at the time of its release.
The erotic thriller follows the complex relationship between writer Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), who becomes a suspect in the murder of a retired rock star, and detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas), who investigates the case. The film received a sequel in 2006, directed by a different team. However, this new project will be a full-blown reboot of the original. According to The Wrap, Sharon Stone is likely involved in the new project. The actress's press representative has yet to make an official statement.
The original Basic Instinct was nominated for Best Film Editing and Best Original Score at the time of its release. However, the film received harsh criticism, particularly during the 1990s, during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ individuals as dangerous killers and for the nudity in the infamous interrogation scene. Six activists who appeared on Saturday Night Live, where Sharon Stone was a guest, were arrested. In her 2021 autobiography, The Beauty of Living Twice, Stone claimed she was tricked into appearing during the interrogation scene in the film. The actress, who appears underwearless in the famous scene, wrote that she was persuaded by the director, “It won’t show on camera; you just have to take it off for the light.”
Details and cast details about the new Basic Instinct movie will become clear in the coming days.
