A dried tree branch fell on the vehicle

The incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Av. Süreyya Ağaoğlu Street in the Teşvikiye neighborhood of Şişli. According to reports, a branch from a dead tree broke off and fell on a parked Volkswagen with license plate 34 EDH 849, damaging the windshield. A potential disaster was averted when a bystander walking on the sidewalk narrowly escaped being crushed by the branch. Firefighters and police were dispatched to the scene following the report. Police closed the road to traffic for safety reasons, while firefighters removed the fallen tree fragments. The road, which was closed, reopened to traffic shortly thereafter.

Turgay Baraz, a resident of the neighborhood where the incident occurred, said, "The insects have been haunting the neighborhood's trees for two months. They say it's a type of insect that doesn't exist in Türkiye. It's black and has horns. The municipality has sprayed it twice, but the trees have been devastated by the insects. I think we're going to lose a lot of trees in our neighborhood. A tree fell on Friday. Trees fall because their insides are rotten. Thankfully, it didn't fall on anyone. A few branches broke off the tree."

"I narrowly escaped the tree falling on me"

Efe Engez, who lives near the street where the tree fell and narrowly escaped disaster with just three steps, said, "I live in this neighborhood. Around 2:50 p.m., the tree fell just after I passed the car that hit it. It fell on its own, not because of the wind, but because the tree was rotting. I narrowly escaped the tree falling on me. My wife was feeding the cats down the road. I was walking this way to get water for the cats when suddenly the tree fell. It fell after only three steps from where the tree was. A tree had fallen down there before."
