Those moments on camera! Drunk driver took young teacher away from life

In Afyonkarahisar, Fine Arts and Painting Teacher Şeyma Candan was hit by a minibus while trying to cross the road. The young teacher was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and lost her life. It was determined that the driver ME, who caused the accident, had a blood alcohol level of 0.58 per mille, and security camera footage of the incident emerged.

On December 25, 2024, at around 22:30 in Karşıyaka Neighborhood, the minibus with the license plate 16 ASE 911 driven by ME hit Fine Arts and Painting Teacher Şeyma Candan, who was trying to cross the road, and then hit a workplace on the side of the road. After the accident, many police and medical teams were dispatched to the area. Şeyma Candan, who was taken to Afyonkarahisar State Hospital by ambulance, could not be saved. While Candan was laid to rest, the minibus driver ME, who was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.58 per mille after the accident, was detained and arrested.

The indictment prepared regarding the incident was accepted by the Afyonkarahisar Criminal Court of First Instance. In his statement in the indictment, ME stated that he had drunk 2 beers in his vehicle at the marketplace in the neighborhood approximately 45 minutes before the incident, that he waited there for approximately 15-20 minutes and then set off to go to Erenler Neighborhood, that he had driven a maximum of 60-70 kilometers under the influence of alcohol in order not to have an accident, that at around 22:30, a dark figure appeared in front of him for some reason and he crashed into it, that he did not understand what had happened, that he wanted to stop his vehicle 100 meters ahead and that he crashed into the side wall of the workplace when he did not stop his vehicle due to stress and fear at that moment.

ME, who said that he left the vehicle and went to the scene immediately, realized that he hit a young woman and called 112 immediately, said that the injured person was taken to the hospital by the ambulance that arrived, and that he learned from the traffic police that his alcohol level was 0.58 per mille, that he was drunk before setting off, and that he made a sudden decision to set off. ME, who said that he was speeding and could not notice the pedestrian because he was distracted, said that he was in a panic after the collision, that he could not stop immediately because his vehicle was a little fast, and that he had no intention of running away. Minibus driver ME was released pending trial at the hearing on February 23.

On the other hand, security camera footage of the accident in which teacher Şeyma Candan lost her life has emerged. The footage shows Şeyma Candan getting off the minibus and trying to cross the road when she was thrown meters forward and fell to the ground. In another footage, the minibus driver who hit Şeyma Candan was seen hitting the wall of a business and smoke was coming out of the vehicle.
