The Pitt has reached new heights. The HBO Max medical drama, which streams on Crave in Canada, was the big winner at this year’s Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards. The Pitt dominated four categories: program of the year, outstanding achievement in drama, outstanding new program, and individual achievement in drama (for star and executive producer Noah Wyle).

“It is an honour to be nominated, especially in that company, and it is incredibly gratifying to win,” Wyle said in a pre-taped acceptance speech. “I’ve known a lot of you for a long time. You’ve written some lovely things about me through the years and about my shows, especially this one.”

The Pitt premièred in January and centres on emergency department staff at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital. Its cast also includes Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa and Shabana Azeez.

The 41st annual TCA Awards were virtual — typically the ceremony would take place during the TCA summer press tour, but that was cancelled for 2025. Organizers announced the winners Wednesday in a news release.

Also grabbing honours this year was The Studio, co-created by Seth Rogen for Apple TV+. It scored in the outstanding comedy category. Bridget Everett, who stars in HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, won for individual achievement in comedy.

The headline-grabbing Netflix show Adolescence won for best limited series or TV movie, and Peacock’s The Traitors won in the outstanding reality series field for the second consecutive year. British sci-fi staple Doctor Who was also a two-in-a-row winner; it dominated the family programming category.

TCA organizers also announced winners in two special categories. Kathy Bates, who headlines CBS’s Matlock reboot, received the career achievement award. The heritage award, which honours shows that have had an enduring effect television, went to Sesame Street. The educational show was also a repeat winner for best children’s program this year.

“Thank you, TCA,” said genial red Muppet Elmo in a statement, accepting the award on behalf of Sesame Street. “You know, you’re some of our favourite letters on Sesame Street. We’re gonna put this award on a shelf in Hooper’s Store for everyone to see.”

The winners of the TCA Awards are decided by the organization’s 235 members. Programs from the 2024-25 television season were in the running this year.
