Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were given a "firm response" from late Queen Elizabeth II during her first meeting with their daughter. The late monarch, who passed away just three months later, is said to have met Lilibet during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's visit to the UK for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.

Princess Lilibet, who was also celebrating her first birthday during her first and only visit to the UK, was named after the late monarch's nickname - with her birth taking place on June 4, 2021. The Sun previously reported that Harry and Meghan were keen to have a photographer on hand to capture the touching moment when the Queen met her great-granddaughter - but that she refused.

An unnamed insider said: "Harry and Meghan wanted their photographer to capture the moment Lilibet met the Queen. But they were told no chance. It was a private family meeting."

Speaking of the reason behind the late Queen's refusal, the same source added: "There were fears any photos of the Queen and Lilibet taken by the couple's photographer would be shared by them with US telly networks."

Writing of the sweet moment that his beloved grandmother met his two children - including Lilibet's big brother Archie - Harry said in his memoir Spare: Archie making his deep bows, his baby sister Lilibet cuddling the monarch's shins. Sweetest children, Granny said, sounding bemused. She'd expected them to be a bit more ... American, I think? Meaning in her mind, more rambunctious."
