Series of hot, humid days kicks off the week for London region

Series of hot, humid days kicks off the week for London region

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the London area Monday, which is expected to remain in place until Tuesday night.

Daytime highs are expected to reach between 30 to 33 C, the weather agency said in a heat warning, with humidex values of 38 to 42. Nighttime low temperatures will go down to only 19 to 21 C, providing little relief.

"The hottest conditions are expected [Monday]," said Environment Canada. "Take action to protect yourself and others - extreme heat can affect everyone's health."

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Signs of heat exhaustion may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. If you are experiencing these symptoms, stop your activity and drink water.

London has cooling centres at the following venues:

  • East Lions Community Centre located at 1731 Churchill Avenue.
  • North London Optimist Community Centre located at 1345 Cheapside Street.
  • Startech.com Community Centre, YMCA and Library located at 501 Southdale Rd W
  • South London Community Centre located at 1119 Jalna Boulevard.

More information can be found on the city's website.

The heat is expected to ease off Wednesday, with a forecast of 26 C and a 40 per cent chance of showers.
