‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North' Season 2: Everything We Know

‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North' Season 2: Everything We Know
preview for Saltburn | Official Trailer

The Australian limited series The Narrow Road to the Deep North was purchased this month for U.S. distribution by Prime Video, and premiered on April 18. The Jacob Elordi-led show is a World War II drama and a moving love story. Fans discovering the show may be wondering if there will be a follow up to the first season.

So far, there are no official plans for continuing The Narrow Road to the Deep North in a second season. Since it is a “limited series,” it was not planned as an ongoing story, but other limited series have been renewed after becoming unexpectedly popular.

The show is based on the 2014 Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name by Richard Flanagan. Elordi stars as Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, and it takes places in three time periods that are interwoven throughout the episodes—before the war, during, and after. An older version of Dorrigo is played by Ciarán Hinds.

During World War II, Dorrigo is made a prisoner of war in Japan, where he survives in part off of his memories of an affair with Amy Mulvaney, played by Odessa Young, who is married to his uncle. Before the war, he and Amy carry on their passionate connection behind the back of his well-to-do fiancé, played by Olivia DeJonge.

While he eventually escapes the horrors of war and sets up a normal life in Sydney, working as a surgeon, Dorrigo continues to be haunted by the past. He then embarks on another affair with Lynette, played by Essie Davis, who is married to his friend and colleague Rick, played by Dan Wyllie.

The story was adapted for television by Shaun Grant, known for Nitram and Mindhunter. Other cast includes Simon Baker, Show Kasamatsu, Heather Mitchell, and Thomas Weatherall. The series premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February, and will be released worldwide, including on the BBC, and Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
