- Lopez has been vocal about how close they are.
Emme Maribel Muñiz has long been in the spotlight, stealing the show at age 11 during their mother Jennifer Lopez’s 2020 Super Bowl halftime show. Now 17, Emme and their twin brother, Max, are getting ready for college—and stepping out more with their mother at red carpet events.
Here, all there is to know about Lopez’s oldest child (by just 11 minutes).
At the Super Bowl, Muñiz sang a J.Lo classic and a Bruce Springsteen classic in basically one breath! They apparently got every single one of their parents’ good genes. They appeared to have zero stage fright and were bold enough to try to out-belt their mother.
Emme has a twin who is incredibly talented. His name is Maximilian, and he was once in a youth production of the Wizard of Oz. To absolutely no one’s surprise, he’s an excellent singer. And he’s very good at riding a hover board and fetching drinks!
When Emme and Maximilian were born in February 2008, the New York Times reported that People paid more than $5 million for exclusive photos of Lopez and the twins, which they published on the cover and inside the magazine.
Emme starred alongside their mother in J.Lo’s “Limitless” music video, even daring to lip-sync the words and look flawless doing it.
Young Emme did it with ease. Skip to 4:10 in this video and watch them sing “If I Ain’t Got You.” J.Lo got teary, and you may, too.
In June 2022, during a performance at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala, Lopez introduced Emme using gender-neutral pronouns. Bringing her 14-year-old onstage for a surprise duet, she told the crowd, “The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won’t. So this is a very special occasion. They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey. They cost me when they come out. But they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me.”
Lopez marked a major milestone for her twins with a trip to Japan. On February 23, the singer shared an Instagram Reel captioned, “16 🥥🥥Birthday trip 2024 🤍🤍,” showing the 16-year-olds exploring Tokyo with friends.
One clip showed the group sitting on the floor whisking matcha while wearing traditional Japanese kimonos. “I’ve never seen Max so excited,” Lopez said at the start of the video. “I’ve never seen myself so excited,” Emme replied.
To celebrate her twins turning 17, Lopez posted a heartfelt Instagram Reel filled with memories from their infancy to their teenage years. The video included home footage of the pair playing backstage with their mom, sharing hugs, and relaxing at home. Lopez also added selfies taken throughout the years. “I love you beyond forever 🥥🥥,” she wrote in the caption.
Lopez and Emme attended the Othello opening night at New York City’s Barrymore Theatre on March 23, turning the evening into a coordinated fashion moment. Lopez wore a crystal-embellished two-piece from Zuhair Murad’s fall 2024 couture collection, complete with a dramatic coat and silver hoops. Emme opted for a pinstriped suit with a gray button-up, black tie, and Vivienne Westwood necklace.
“Othello premiere with the best date ever ✨,” Lopez captioned her Instagram, which featured photos of the two together on the red carpet.
During an October 2025 Live With Kelly and Mark interview, Lopez revealed that Emme and their twin brother, Max, are looking ahead as they prepare to graduate high school. “We’re visiting a college today,” she said. “It’s happening. They’re leaving. They’re going.”
The singer reflected on the emotional transition, adding, “I’m happy because I remember how exciting that time of my life was when I was like, ‘Oh, I’m figuring out what I want to do with my life.’ It’s an exciting adventure, and I want that for them. But I also think, ‘Oh, I’m gonna be by myself.’”
Lopez said she’s focused on maintaining a home her kids will always feel connected to: “Since they were born, I was like, whatever this is, whatever we create, the three of us together, it’s going to be something that they always are like, ‘When I go home, it feels good. It smells like home; it tastes like home.’”
She added, “They are 17. They’ll be 18 in February. They are graduating this June from high school, and I feel like we are a close-knit three now. A lot has happened with us, and we had to bond together.”
While she didn’t specify what the twins plan to study, Lopez recently told CBS Sunday Morning that Emme is “a musical theatre kid.” As she put it, “They go away for camp for musical theatre, and they do all the shows. And I get to go see them, and it’s fantastic.”
