Hailey and Justin Bieber are working through a challenging time in their relationship. Sources spoke to Us Weekly and Entertainment Tonight this week about the current state of the couple’s marriage.

On Tuesday, two sources told Us Weekly that it has been a difficult period, marked by more “ups and downs” than usual for the couple, who has been married for six years.

“Things aren’t great right now,” one source said, noting Justin’s erratic behavior has caused “a lot of stress” for Hailey.

“Justin’s been a hard person to deal with recently because of what he’s going through,” the insider added. “Hailey is the stable parent and the one keeping their family together. It’s been really hard on her.”

A second source said that “things have been very tense in the last month. Hailey’s worried about Justin, especially with a [baby, Jack whom they welcomed in August, at home]. He hasn’t been down like this in quite some time, so there’s concern.”

The second insider noted that the chances of them breaking up “are very slim, especially because of their [Christian] faith. Faith is a big part of their life. They believe they are soulmates and meant for each other. They’ll do anything to make it work.”

Hailey is dedicated to their relationship, the insider maintained: “He’s a loose cannon, and Hailey’s making room for that. They are going to get through it.”

On Monday, a source gave Entertainment Tonight similar intel. “Justin and Hailey have been struggling in their relationship,” the source said. “They both want to salvage their marriage, but right now things are not good.” The insider added that their friends believe they can work things out, too.

There are issues on both sides, the source detailed: “Justin has been getting irritated easily and feels like Hailey can be superficial about the way their relationship looks in the public eye, and Justin’s lack of motivation has been upsetting for her.”

Last Thursday, Hailey drew attention when she was photographed without her wedding ring on two outings in New York City. On Saturday, she was wearing her ring again, including the upgraded engagement ring she debuted last year.

Hailey spoke about the internet commentary about their marriage in a recent Vogue interview, which was published in May. “I feel like I’ve fought so hard to try to get people to understand me, or know who I am, or see me for me,” she began. “And people just don’t want to sometimes. And there’s nothing you can do about that. I’ve been in a position where I’ve tried to tell my side of a story or correct a narrative or tell the truth of a lie and then they go, Well, she’s lying. Imagine how trapping that feels.”

She has learned to ignore the noise as much as she can: “I’ve learned so much from Justin, really,” she said. “He’s been doing this literally since he was a child and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know. He was like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.’”
