Alfred Hitchcock's Best Movies Are Coming to Netflix

Alfred Hitchcock's Best Movies Are Coming to Netflix
preview for 10 films Christopher Nolan wants you to watch

If the glut of today's streaming content isn't doing it for you, consider going back to the classics. Thankfully, Netflix is about to unleash a treasure trove of undisputed cinematic masterpieces in honor of the man behind them all: Alfred Hitchcock.

On June 1, a slew of Hitchcock classics will stream on Netflix for subscribers in the U.S. The selection includes Vertigo (1958), Rear Window (1954), Frenzy (1972), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Family Plot (1976), and The Birds (1963). The movies will join Hitchcock's seminal 1960 horror film Psycho, which is already streaming on Netflix.

The influx of Hitchcock on Netflix is part of a special six-week series, "HITCH! The Original Cinema Influencer" which will take place at the Netflix-owned Paris Theater in New York from May 16 to June 29. The event will screen some 60 movies at the Paris Theater; 36 directed by Hitchcock, and the rest are directly and explicitly inspired by the Master of Suspense.

Despite Netflix's reach and influence over the entertainment industry, the algorithm-driven streamer arguably doesn't do enough to encourage deep dives into classic cinema. The movies that actually inspired today's auteurs—such as Jordan Peele, Christopher Nolan, M. Night Shyamalan, David Fincher, and Robert Eggers—still hold up. In a May 2023 appearance on Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, comedian Bill Hader sung the virtues of Hitchock's work as timeless with a funny anecdote about how his preteen daughters found themselves enraptured by Rear Window.

So, if you feel like your movie diet is missing something delectable, circle your calendar for June 1 and let Alfred Hitchcock serve you a five-course meal.
