Robert Sugden (played by Ryan Hawley) has been suspicious of John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) since he returned to Emmerdale in May. He made a brief comeback to the Dales in May to stop the wedding between John and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) before returning permanently the following month. Robert is edging closer to the truth about John's involvement in Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) murder and discovers that Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) has an alibi for the day he was killed.

Fans will know that John framed Owen for Nate's death, writing out a fake confession on his computer for the police to find. This only peaks Robert's suspicions before he learns that John was responsible for saving a number of lives in the village. In upcoming scenes, Robert tries to find out more about how John saved Jacob Gallagher's (Joe-Warren Plant) life, but he rushes off before shedding any light on the situation.

Robert's mind begins to wander when he speaks to Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell), who recounts stories of all the villagers John has saved since being in the village.

He remains steadfast in his opinion about John and tells Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) that he is too good to be true. Another opportunity to investigate John arises when he leaves his phone on the table in the eyes of Robert.

Despite being unable to unlock the device, John is panicked when Robert suggests he has seen something. Concerned about Robert, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) urges him to seek help.

When he refuses, John agrees to get Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) to check on him. Rattled by what Robert might know, John concocts his own plan to get one up on his brother.

John sneaks into Keepers and secretly leaves a small listening device. After listening into one of Robert’s conversations, John is delighted to finally have some dirt on his brother.

What has John heard and could this be everything he needs to force Robert out of the village for good?

Oliver recently confirmed there is plenty more drama to come involving his character and Robert.

Asked how he felt about producers bringing Robert back on his ex-husband's wedding day, the actor told Digital Spy: "Oh, absolutely brilliant and a genius move from the producers. Robert and Aaron have such history, and that partnership was particularly loved by the audience.

"It’s caused great conflict as we’ve seen Aaron and John’s relationship blossom and suddenly there's this huge spanner in the works. It’s going to lead to a lot more drama, there's definitely no love lost between John and Robert!"
