BBC's period detective drama Father Brown became an instant hit after premiering in 2013 as fans praised its unconventional plot, which sees Mark Williams play a crime-solving Roman Catholic priest. The series, set in the early 1950s, is loosely based on short stories of the same name written by G. K. Chesterton. The first series was inundated with acclamation from viewers who were hooked by the charming characters, picturesque settings, and engaging mysteries.

The drama was such a success that a spin-off was green-lighted for 10 episodes in 2020 and has since gone on to release its fourth series. As Father Brown recently wrapped up its 13th series, fans have enjoyed a whopping 120 episodes, and naturally, many have taken scores of their most favourite to least favourite instalments. Many took to IMDb to share their thoughts and even ranked the top five of all the show's releases, and being the newest episode on the list, the results could leave many shocked.

Father Brown's The Honourable Thief episode

Fans have chosen to rank series seven's The Honourable Thief in fifth place, with a ranking of 8.3 out of 10 on IMDb, as fans labelled it an "excellent episode."

Lady Felicia Montague's (played by Nancy Carroll) home was threatened because she refused to sell a diamond to a Russian. Although Father Brown was quickly on the case, things took a turn for the worse after the priest called in Hercule Flambeau (John Light) to steal it back from him.

The Sins of Others came in at number four

Father Brown's 2017 episode, The Sins of Others, saw the priest step in after Sid Carter (Alex Price) was released from prison for assault. He set out to get revenge on his former defence lawyer, who failed to stop him from going to prison.

The episode was a huge favourite for BBC viewers, who also ranked it an 8.3 out of 10, with one fan hailing it "one of the best episodes ever," as another echoed: "One of the best episodes of Father Brown, it is 45 minutes of brilliant drama."

The Star of Jacob star Raymond Coulthard

This 2016 episode, Star of Jacob, aired as the drama's Christmas special and featured Father Brown investigating the disappearance of a baby at Lady Felicia's Yuletide ball.

The ball also faced a mysterious stranger, a missing donkey, and an outbreak of laryngitis in the church choir. One IMDb fan branded it "one of the cosiest episodes," while another praised it as a "stellar episode."

The runner-up is this 2015 episode from series three, which viewers praised for its "absolutely brilliant script." Another revealed they regularly rewatch it as a favourite and added: "I watch this often and still marvel. The storyline is great."

Millions watched in awe as Father Brown was stunned to learn that Inspector Sullivan (Tom Chambers) was wanted for murder. He came to this discovery when the fugitive took sanctuary in St. Mary's and opened up in the confessional to ask for help.
