Netflix down LIVE: Updates as thousands face chaos with popular streaming service

Netflix is down for tens of thousands users across the US - and fans have vented their anger.

People across America are encountering issues with the popular streaming service. Website Downdetector says around 80,000 outages have been reported in the last two hours, mostly around video streaming but also concerning the server connection.

The map on the site shows the challenges are being reported throughout the US, including in Washington DC, New York City and Chicago. The Mirror has this morning contacted Netflix for comment.

KEY EVENT

A further approximate 3,000 Netflix users in the UK have, in the last hour or so, experienced challenges wth the app.

DownDetector's map shows these were reported across the country.

Again, the majority concern streaming issues but others have had trouble with navigating the website.

We have contacted Netflix for a comment.

Words on a general page on its website read: "We strive to bring you TV shows and movies you want to watch, whenever you want to watch them, but on very rare occasions we do experience a service outage. If we are experiencing an interruption to our streaming service, we'll keep this page up to date with a description of the problem.

Still experiencing an issue?

"If your issue isn't displayed above, search our Help Center for the error code or issue you're experiencing."

People might be frustrated but they've also seen humour in the situation.

Many have posted GIFs and memes repesenting what they believe Netflix is doing now to desperately solve the challenges.

One meme shows a man appearing confused as he examines a cabinet of switches, wires and plugs.

One GIF depicts a subdued man slowly moving a computer mouse to, seemingly, no joy.

KEY EVENT

At its peak, some 78,000 users experienced issues, particularly with streaming content.

This was at around 2.20am in the UK (9.20pm on Thursday in New York City and Washington DC, and 6.30pm in Los Angeles for instance).

Most of these cases were in eastern parts of the US, Downdetector shows.

Users say "nothing will play" on Netflix. When they attempt to put on their favourite series or film, an error message appears, saying content is unavailable.

Netflix is understood to be investigating the glitch.

"Is the F1 Academy Netflix show just gone??? Looked on both the website and the app and can’t find it," one Netflix fan posted on X.

KEY EVENT

The Netflix outage is thought to have only affected more than 80,000 people so far - nearly the capacity of Wembley Stadium - but users have been vocal with their complaints.

Writing online, one said: "Of course Netflix is down when I want to watch something for once." Another said: "I was trying to watch House and it stopped working when I tried moving onto the next episode."

A third posted on X: "Okay Netflix, stop with the funny business."
