California Dem Betty Yee proposes gender-neutral Olympics in shocking interview

A Democratic hopeful for California's governor seat has suggested that a gender-neutral Olympics is a 'conversation worth having' in a new interview.
The Games are coming to Los Angeles in 2028, and gubernatorial candidate Betty Yee was asked about the issue of transgender athletes in sports by Piers Morgan on his eponymous show.
And after Yee said 'transgender female athletes are women athletes', Morgan later asked her if she would support a gender-neutral Olympics.
'I don't think we're going to get that tomorrow, but I think it's a conversation worth having,' she said.
'We need to understand what the attributes are of athletes across the spectrum.'
Yee's remarks came after she earlier admitted in the interview that biologically male and female athletes have different attributes.

Yee left Piers Morgan stunned as she suggested that men and women could evenly compete in track and field
She also supported the idea of transgender women competing in women's divisions.
When pressed by Morgan to think of an Olympic sport where men would not have an advantage over women, Yee provided a surprising response.
'I think you can see female athletes where, particularly in track and field, where agility...', she said, before a stunned Morgan cut her off.
The men's world record in the 100m dash is nearly a full second faster than the women's record.
Yee's comments come after President Trump signed an executive order in February 'keeping men out of women's sports' and banning trans athletes from competing in women's divisions.
However, California continued to allow trans athletes to compete in women's divisions, leading the Trump administration to sue the California Department of Education and California Interscholastic Federation.
There was fierce backlash in the state when a transgender athlete claimed gold in the high jump and triple jump at the California Interscholastic Federation state finals at the end of May.

And there was also an instance of a trans high school basketball player dominating in the women's division back in February.
That athlete did not appear in their team's playoff game later that month amid protests from some parents.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom previously admitted that trans athletes competing in women's sports was not fair, but criticized how conservatives talk about the community.
'My position is that I don't think it's fair, but I also think it's demeaning to talk down to people, and to belittle the trans community,' he said. And I don't like the way the right wing talks about the trans community. These people just want to survive.'
Yee, 67, previously served two terms as state controller.
She later became the vice-chair of the California Democratic Party in 2021.
