England cricket captain Jos Buttler urged to resign after latest dismal failure

Jos Buttler has been urged to resign as England's limited-overs captain following their dsimal defeat to Afghanistan.
The defeat saw Buttler's side were dumped out of the Champions Trophy in the group stage. Wednesday's reverse to Afghanistan was their ninth defeat in 10 matches since Brendon McCullum took over as coach.
England lost their opening group stage game to Australia to make the clash with Afghanistan a must-win. But after the minnows recovered from going from being 140-4, England were set a score of 325 to beat.
Joe Root put them on the verge of a win a magnificent 120 off 111 deliveries to leave England needing 17 runs from 14 balls with three wickets in hand. They failed to deliver though, with Afghanistan beating them by eight runs.
Wednesday's defeat has convinced former England Test skipper Nasser Hussain that it is time for Buttler to step down. Hussain believes that England have the talent to succeed but are being held back by Buttler's captaincy.
"Well if you're having to consider all options, then the option is to let it go. It can be the most difficult thing to do, I like Buttler as a human being, he's a very likable young man, he's popular with everyone who has played the game with him, but that's not his job," Hussain told Sky Sports.
"If he's saying there is a lot of talent in the dressing room and the results have fallen off, they went out in the group stage of the 50-over World Cup and the Champions Trophy, and they have lost their last four bilateral series.
"His form has diminished, I don't think it sits comfortably on his shoulders. I've never looked at Buttler and thought 'wow what a leader,' he doesn't have that presence in the field that an Eoin Morgan had.
"That's a bad comparison because you're talking about England's greatest ever white-ball captain and he was a hard act to follow. As far as captaincy goes, I don't think Buttler has added that much to this England team, but it's taken away from his batting. I think it's time to move on."
Buttler himself has admitted he is considering his position as captain following Wednesday's defeat. The 34-year-old failed to hide his frustration at his side's performance in Lahore.
"I don’t want to say any emotional statements right now. But I think for myself and the other guys at the top, we should consider all possibilities. It’s really disappointing. I thought we had our chances in the game," he said.
"A confident team would've romped home tonight, that's the way sport goes sometimes. The talent is there in the dressing room. The young guys will go on to have great careers. English and white-ball cricket needs to get back to the way it was.
"I wasn't at my best, I'm not performing at that level. Not getting the scores I'm used to, that's frustrating. I've enjoyed it [captaincy] I enjoy the challenge but I don't enjoy losing games of cricket. When it doesn't go your way you look in the mirror and ask if you're part of the problem or the solution."
