Four Real Madrid stars discover fate for Arsenal clash as UEFA confirm punishments

Four Real Madrid stars discover fate for Arsenal clash as UEFA confirm punishments
Antonio Rudiger appeared to make a throat-slitting gesture

None of the four Real Madrid players investigated by UEFA will miss next week's Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal. Stars Antonio Rudiger and Kylian Mbappe have received suspended one-match bans on top of fines, while team-mate Dani Ceballos has been only fined for 'violating the basic rules of decent conduct'.

Former Chelsea star Rudiger was accused of making a throat-slitting gesture towards Atletico Madrid supporters in the aftermath of last month's round-of-16 second leg. Vinicius Junior was also probed by UEFA but has escaped punishment.

Real controversially won the tie on penalties after Atletico had a goal in the shootout cancelled by VAR. Images and videos of the players' behaviour promoted to UEFA appoint an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to assess four players' conduct during and after the dramatic penalty shootout against local rivals Atletico on March 12.

Ahead of the first leg at the Emirates next Tuesday, UEFA announced: "The CEDB has decided: To fine Real Madrid CF player, Mr. Antonio Rüdiger, €40,000 and to suspend him for a total of one (1) UEFA club competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible for violating the basic rules of decent conduct. Said suspension is not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period of one (1) year, starting from the date of the present decision.

"To fine Real Madrid CF player, Mr. Kylian Mbappé, €30,000 and to suspend him for a total of one (1) UEFA club competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible for violating the basic rules of decent conduct. Said suspension is not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period of one (1) year, starting from the date of the present decision.

"To fine Real Madrid CF player, Mr. Daniel Ceballos Fernández, €20,000 for violating the basic rules of decent conduct."

It was also confirmed that no disciplinary proceedings were opened against Vinicius Junior.
