Here's What Needs To Happen For Clare To Get Out Of The Munster Championship

Clare's difficult run in 2025 continued with a four point defeat at home to Tipperary in Ennis yesterday.

The result does not end technically end their All-Ireland defence, but it is on life support. Insert Mission Impossible music here, as that’s what is needed for the All-Ireland championship to get out of the province and to retain their All-Ireland crown as they face daunting task

With only one game remaining, which is Limerick away, the Banner men only have one point to their name after an epic comeback to draw Cork in round one. Their defeats to Waterford and Clare leave them at the bottom of the table with a single point and a minus 11 scoring difference.

However, it isn’t mathematically over for Brian Lohan and co. If Cork beat Limerick and Waterford beat Tipperary, the Treaty men and the Premier County would be on three points.

We plugged some permutations into the extremely handy website KnowYourGame.ie, and here's what the computer told us.

If Waterford or Tipp finish level with Clare, either will supersede the Banner on head to head. A point from Waterford away to Tipp or Cork will end their campaign once and for all.

Clare's only real hope rests with overtaking Limerick. The defending Munster champions play Cork next Sunday. If Cork beat Limerick, and then Clare can beat Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds on the final day of the Munster round robin, Clare would finish above Limerick in the table.

Clare would also need Tipperary to defeat Waterford next Sunday (and Cork to do the same on the last day).

The Banner county will hope Cork can blitz the Limerick defence for goals, and Waterford can continue their impressive recent form against Tipp to give the All-Ireland champions any hope of getting out of Munster.

Another possible outcome would be for Limerick to beat Cork and Waterford to beat Tipperary, but this solution requires Clare to get through a Limerick win and a giant score difference swing, as Cork currently has a 26 point advantage on them.
