Joe Brolly Story Explains Why He Feels Ger Brennan Is A Nailed On Dublin Success

There was some surprise when it was revealed earlier this week that Ger Brennan had been appointed as the new Dublin manager, with the announcement coming somewhat out of the blue.
While the move to appoint Brennan as the next Dubs boss makes a huge amount of sense, there has been suggestions in the days prior that the county were set to go in a different direction. Rumours were rife that Declan Darcy was set to be appointed as manager, something that proved to be untrue.
Ger Brennan brings significant pedigree to the role. Not only is he a former Dublin player of some stature, he has also experienced a huge amount of inter-county managerial success during his time with Louth.

Joe Brolly Feels Ger Brennan Is A Nailed On Dublin SuccessBrennan will step into a more uncertain situation than some of his Dublin predecessors, but confidence will be high that he is the man to get the county back on track in 2026.
The former St Vincent's star employed a steely personality during his playing days, something he is not set to bring once again as a manager.
Writing in the Irish Independent, Joe Brolly shared a story told to him by Pat Gilroy that summed up why he feels Brennan will be a big hit in his new role with Dublin.
“After every savage run, Ger would look at me as if to say, ‘Is that all you’ve got? Let’s go again.’ He was central to forging that new mindset for Dublin football that came out of those sessions. We became mentally tougher than Kerry. The funny thing is that Ger told me years later he hated that running, but he embraced it because he sensed a new Dublin would emerge.”
Now this extraordinary young man is Dublin senior manager and how could it be any other way? He will, as he has done with his life, give it his all...
Reeling in Kerry will be an enormous challenge, just as it was in 2011.
Brolly would go on to suggest that he sees a new era of a fierce rivalry between Kerry and Dublin emerging moving forward, something that would certainly add a bit of spice to the championship over the coming years.
Brennan's first task will no doubt use next year's league campaign to impose his system on the Dubs panel, followed by the small task of regaining the Leinster title that he wrestled away from his native county with Louth this summer.
